Two New Friends!

Tyler & Harper had two new friends over today to play...

Its a Twin World!

Tyler, Harper, Brooke & Hayden

Brooke & Hayden were born the day after Tyler & Harper. Their mom, Kasey & I had the same original due date and we picked different c-section dates so the girls would not have the same birthday.

Two sets of identicals!

White Twins & Proffitt Twins ~ 6 months old

The girls are going to have a great time growing up together. They can't wait for their next playdate!

Memorial Day at the lake

The girls made their first trip to the lake on Memorial Day and the weekend was full of entertainment (primarily at the expense of yours truly and Uncle Brandy). We put the Sea Doo's in the water for the first time and very quickly realized we failed to put the plugs in. As soon as we had one up and running we started wake boarding. Shortly thereafter, our ski rope handle broke in half, we rushed to buy a new one which was used for a good 15 minutes before it was sucked into the prop. Brandon had to swim the Sea Doo back to the landing to be taken out of the water for the third time. The good news is our family and all the neighbors had some good laughs and by day two we had both out on the water. We had a great time with Pop, Honey, Brandon, Emily Rose, and Kristin.

But I am sure you are most concerned with what is happening with Tyler and Harper. Their laughs are so much more pronounced now, so the highlight of my day is to see how much I can make them laugh - it is so cute. They are almost 6 months old and enjoy all their outdoor toys - everything from their shade tent to the new frog pool - the girls are prepared for fun in the sun. The newest experience was swinging in the hammock. They liked it so much we are considering one for home. We are in the process of updating the lake house in anticipation of many more family weekends to come. I remember all the fun I had growing up spending time on the water and can't wait to teach the girls to ski, tube, wakeboard, etc...I guess we better start with the swim lessons first!

A Little Chaos!

People always ask us what a typical day is like with the babies.  Everyone thinks it is all smiles & simplicity around here. Well, we are on a "schedule" & we were luckily blessed with great babies that have a sweet & easy going demeanor, but chaos does erupt around here... just about every night after dinnertime when dad gets home the party begins.

Above are the girls after their afternoon nap, sweet and clean. Ready for Dinner!

Below is a little video of a few seconds into what our nights have become. Complete chaos. Yes, that is smashed up carrots all over Tyler's outfit- and yes that is very normal. Usually by about six o'clock one baby is stripped down to only a diaper because the mess from the day has completely taken over! Again, the videos are a little amateur- filmed sideways, kinda blurry, funny to us but probably no one else. You get the picture... Enjoy!

Our sweet Pearce (the singing chihuahua) is realizing that the girls are about to rule his world. They pet him, pull his hair and hysterically laugh at him now. He is learning to love them & is always well fed now because he licks up the sweet potatoes, carrots & chaos that the babies have sprayed all over our house!

The Baptism

On Mother's Day we had the girls baptized. It was a year ago on Mother's Day last year that we let our families know we were expecting twins... so this holiday seemed like the perfect day to have Tyler & Harper baptized. We celebrated by having our family, godparents & closest friends present. The girls did great and it was truly a special day!

Somehow in all of the hustle & bustle of the day we missed the opportunity to take a picture of the girls with their godparents. A big thank you to Meriwether & Jeff (Harper's godparents) and Lauren & Chip (Tyler's godparents)... we cannot thank you enough for your support & love for our little girls!

First night away

This weekend marked a milestone - Elizabeth's first night away from the girls since they were born - it has been FIVE MONTHS.

First things, first. I need to back up to Thursday. I got a call at work - it was my wife informing me that my mulch order was grossly overestimated. My expectation was for an oversize pickup truck size load, instead Elizabeth described the truck as more akin to a garbage truck and it "was beeping" as it backed into my driveway. Needless to say, I had a full day of work to squeeze into a few hours before we embarked on "the first night away". Donned the king of mulch, I am happy to report through some well timed bargaining and a few neighbors in need of ground cover - this mountain should be gone by mid week. It's a good thing as my back was on the brink of never forgiving me.

After a long night in the yard on Friday we rose early to feed the girls and hit the road... down to Litchfield Plantation for a wedding of dear friends Saturday night. It was a strange feeling for the both of us and we pulled out of town... Elizabeth was not particularly fond of the distinct smell of my rental car (long story), but it wasn't long before that discomfort was replaced with a freedom unknown to either of us since December 2007. A quick look over our shoulder and it was confirmed... no kids AND no dog. We were off for one night with no responsibility - except to ensure a tet-a-tet bewteen Elizabeth and some bubbly.

The wedding was beautiful. The decor simple yet strikingly memorable. How could it not be in such a picturesque setting? Low country food was plentiful and of course... the champagne was flowing. We were away from the girls for a night, but I think we talked about them the majority of the time. Everyone wanted to hear the latest and how things were going for us. Being the proud parents were are, I for one seized the opportunity to dote on my little ladies. We surprised my mom (and ourselves) by only calling home to check in a few times. A little dancing, an on-stage cameo, a twirl with the mother of the bride, followed by a late night pizza and the night out came to an end.

Despite the temporary freedom, we did miss our little ladies. Seeing the other parents with their kids all dressed up and doing their best to mimic dance moves they've picked up here or there. I definitely noticed a few natural stars in the making. I can't wait to see our little stars, Tyler and Harper, in their cute dresses out on the dance floor with the other kids or dancing with us. There is something about a wedding that reconfirms what it is we cherish most - unconditional love. Unconditional love for our spouse, unconditional love for our children, unconditional love for our family. Don't forget the ones you love this weekend on Mother's Day!

......we sure did miss them!
